Survival Strategies in the Era of Technological Hegemony
The Seoul Economic Daily, Korea's pioneer in business journalism, is marking its 64th
year with the Seoul Forum 2024, to be held on May 28-29 at the Shilla Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.
This 15th edition of the forum will focus on Survival Strategies in the Era of Technological Hegemony.
As the rivalry between the United States and China escalates and global geopolitical tensions rise,
countries worldwide are restructuring their supply chains for high-tech sectors such as
semiconductors, batteries, and autonomous vehicles.
They are also vying for supremacy in advanced
technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.
In the current landscape of cutting-edge technological competition, nations that
fall behind are inevitably becoming dependent on those with technological dominance.
Korea has identified 12 key national strategic technologies and is making significant investments and
extending all necessary support to secure a leading position in these fields,
aiming to transition from a 'fast follower' to a 'pioneer.' Through this forum,
the Seoul Economic Daily seeks to explore future directions in the era of technological hegemony,
and to propose new growth solutions for Korea by investigating innovations
in research and development and strategies for nurturing creative talent.
This forum features a distinguished lineup of participants, including Anima Anandkumar,
the former chief AI scientist at NVIDIA and a chaired professor at Caltech, and Sangbae Kim,
a globally recognized authority in robotics from MIT. Other notable attendees include Kim Kinam,
President of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea, and Nancy Ip,
President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, alongside other global scholars, experts,
industry leaders, and government officials.
Additionally, we have invited a significant number of Korean scientists and
technologists active in advanced global industries and the R&D sectors.
The Seoul Forum 2024 will not only host three main sessions but also feature five special forums focusing on space,
quantum technologies, secondary batteries, K-content, and talent development.
It is our hope that 'Seoul Forum 2024' will provide insights into strengthening the competitiveness of
advanced industries and sustainable growth, thereby securing new growth drivers for Korea.
Thank you
